Monolaurin is an ingredient derived from coconut oil, which itself has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine. Monolaurin is also found in human breast milk. Benefits attributed to monolaurin include antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal properties. Importantly, evidence suggests that in some cases monolaurin may circumvent acquired bacterial resistance, a growing problem which is common to pharmaceutical antibiotics.
