MDbio: The Origin of "The Doctors' Brand"

The four medical doctors who founded MDbio are specialists with notable, successful careers at premier American hospitals and medical centers in Southern California. 

Through the course of their respective practices, encompassing over 80 combined years of patient care, our founders have written thousands of pharmaceutical prescriptions for their patients.   Over the years, however, it became increasingly clear to the doctors that the drugs they proscribed to alleviate conditions regarding sleep, anxiety, pain, and immunity, were, unfortunately, a double-edged sword.  While the drugs definitely worked to some degree, in a significant percentage of cases they also had toxic, harmful, or addictive impacts on patients. 

In contrast, many of the doctors’ patients who were experimenting on their own with cannabinoid medicines (primarily CBD and THC) to supplement their reliance on pharmaceuticals were feeling better, and experiencing less harmful side effects, than those patients exclusively using pharmaceuticals.  They ultimately concluded that these phytocannabinoids appeared to have real benefits without appreciable side effects (especially compared with alternatives such as prescription opioids) and that these cannabinoids had undeniable potential to help reduce suffering and improve outcomes.  As the doctors did more research into the medicinal background of these previously taboo “alternative remedies,” it became clear to the doctors that full-spectrum hemp-derived cannabinoids (primarily CBD) could potentially form a primary building block for a new type of solution to common ailments.  Meanwhile, improvements in producing pure hemp oil  were making it possible to create higher-quality full-spectrum extracts rich in healing phytocannabinoids (CBD, CBN, CBG and others) without THC, the psychoactive component which gives Cannabis its “recreational” effects. 

The use of extracts from the hemp plant was in line with the physicians’ beliefs around plant-based medicines in general (derived from the Eastern cultures in which they grew up) in which naturally-derived botanicals and herbs have been used successfully for centuries to treat patients.  They realized that the correct combination of CBD and other phytocannabinoids extracted from full-spectrum hemp, along with other naturally occurring plant compounds like Valerian, White Willow Bark, Lavender, and GABA, held incredible promise in providing a safer alternative to decrease, and in some cases, entirely replace, patient use of pharmaceuticals to treat core ailments.  But like any drug, it would require assembling the right ingredients in the right proportions to create safe and effective remedies that the doctors would be comfortable staking their reputations on as they brought their product to market.  

And so the idea for MDbio was born.

Today, MDbio develops products that restore balance (homeostasis) to the body during times of sleeplessness, anxiety, pain and other common situations.  Ultimately, the company’s founders seek to restore not only wellness to patients, but a true “joy of living” by seeking out, testing and refining natural ingredients that support good health.
